Alternative Energy Sources

With the prices of commercial fuel regularly rising, we as clients would have to search for cheaper alternative measures. Fortunately, people have come up with more effective alternative energy sources that would include solar power, wind power, hydropower, and others. As for fuel effectiveness, competent car manufacturers have recently come up with hybrid car models which work through a combined effort by a gas engine and by a strong electric motor causing a car to eat less gas.

While these novel innovations would allow you to cut off a large chunk of your electricity bill, you get even more savings as nowadays, you can make your own gas at home. This is referred to as alternative fuel and individuals who have tried it have apparently been delighted with it.

Types Of Fuel You Can Make At Home

Some types of energy that you can make on your own are hydrogen gas, alcohol, methane gas, and diesel oil.

You can use hydrogen gas for lighting, heating, and for motor fuel however, making it would require a lot of electricity. Unless you have a lot to save on your electricity bill, you might rather not make hydrogen fuel at home

Alcohol on the other hand can also be used for the same purposes and is noticeably easy to make. Individuals who settle on the country sides have been making their own alcohol for years however; making fuel grade alcohol would be very tough. For alcohol to be taken as fuel grade, it has to be around 90 to 95 percent clean which means that it has only around 5 to 10 percent water content.

Methane can also be used for the same purposes and is pretty easy to make if you have enough supply of biomass; this which would include animal manure and some plants. Out of all fuels made at home, methane is probably the easiest to make however, the process can be both messy and time consuming.

The type of diesel you can make on your own is not in fact real diesel, but would be more precisely referred to as biodiesel which comes from plant oil. In general, any kind of plant oil that can be used to light a lamp can be turned into biodiesel.

How Effective Are These?

Since these are fit enough to be called fuels, it can be said that fuels made at home would serve the purpose just as good as commercial fuels would. These can power engines, light lamps, and do everything else commercial fuels can do.

The real issue in fuels made at home is not actually how effective they are but the time and hard work one would have to entail to produce them.

How To Make Home Made Fuels

When it comes to home made fuels, alcohol is one of the most commonly done. This is typically made by letting yeast bacteria consume a mix of grains and plants until it produces alcohol as a byproduct. After that, a cleansing process is done to remove water from the mixture and make the alcohol cleaner.

When it comes to home made fuels, methane gas is considered to be the easiest to make. All you need are the raw materials which would contain animal manure and plants and a method that would collect methane gas from those raw materials. The technique has a considerably simple structure which looks like a plain container with a cover and a pipe that would collect the methane gas produced by the raw materials inside.

Because of growing demands, making biodiesel at home is also getting more popular. Biodiesel is made from extracting oils from plants and process it further for it to be free of foreign substances which may be present in the oil, clean, and free of water.
