Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas
Each year, millions of people spend weeks planning for and getting ready for the festivities of Halloween. But there are just as many people out there who wait until the last possible moment to even begin thinking about costumes. Ideally, what costume to wear should be given some serious time and thought. It’s not like decorations and candy that can wait until October 31st in the afternoon. Last minute Halloween costumes, like their planned counterparts, can be just as creative and unique.
The important thing to remember is to stay calm rather than panicking. Your costume can still be good even though the costume stores are sold out. Rationally, catalog the various items around your home. Cardboard boxes, loose fabric, glitter, and face paint can all be transformed from random items in a junk drawer into a great Halloween costume.
The gold standard for last minute costumes is, and most likely always will be, the ghost. A sharp pair of scissors and a plain white bed sheet are all you need. You could even throw a humorous twist in by using something other than white. A tie dye ghost would be hilarious! This outfit will also most likely garner you a number of compliments, due to its classic appeal.
Those old and unused cardboard boxes taking up space in your garage can also become a memorable and creative robot costume. Enough of them to cover your abdomen, legs, and arms, some paint, and a few hours to let it dry is literally all you need. Cut holes in the tops and bottoms of the various sized boxes and paint robotic graphics onto them with the paint.
You might find something good in your closet or attic. If your parents or grandparents will let you go through their old things, you could discover a gem. Period themed costumes are both easily accomplished and a guaranteed hit at any Halloween party. An old suede jacket and hat or a 50s skirt and pink neckerchief, or any other combination is all you need.
You could put together a ninja costume in just minutes with a pair of black sweat pants, a black tee shirt and a bandana. Do you have younger siblings who might be willing to loan you some toys like plastic swords or throwing stars? If not, you could swing by Toys R Us on the way to the pumpkin patches orange county and pick up a couple of items.
A zombie costume can be accomplished with just some fake blood and light foundation make-up. Just mess up your hair so that it’s sticking out in all directions, and put the foundation and fake blood on your face, neck and arms. Or just wear your regular clothes with some fake blood on them. It will look like you planned it out well in advance. Think up a good backstory to go with your costume.
For the hopelessly last minute planners, even pajamas will do. Other last minute possibilities include a bathrobe and slippers or a colorful matching pair of thermal underwear. These may not seem like costumes to you, but it will look like you had planned it for weeks. Wear your hair in pigtails or carry a large lollipop around with you and you could pass your outfit off as being a child or toddler, a humorous costume for an adult.
Don’t skip that party just because you have nothing to wear. Look around the house, put something together and find a pumpkin patches San Diego and have a great time!
