Is Solar Power The Immediate Answer To Our Energy Woes -

The world has placed virtually all its eggs in one energy source basket…the earth’s oil, gasoline and coal fossil gas reserves. It should now discover ways to slowly wean itself from it. The question is…”where do we turn for the brand new source that will turn our power wheels ?”
We are looking for an across-the-board solution for our current exorbitant consumption of gasoline and it appears as though there is none, at the least for the present. We are taking a look at Ethanol additive to our current gasoline formulas, but it will only give us better miles per gallon and of course, a lot cleaner bi-products with its use. Ethanol becomes a brief fix…at best. The reason, after all is the necessity for the corn base sugars(and different similar sugar and starch crops) to provide it. It is a simple deduction that it’s going to eventually begin to deplete the food stock of our nation and also hurt our exports of those grains. We could, with the anticipated increase in want of our corn crop, grow the extra acreage that will be needed to fulfill any anticipated needs. We must have in mind the quantity of labor that would be required to accomplish this task. The query remains…Will the Ethanol strategy keep the value below our present gasoline prices ?
All in all, we must accept the fact that we will be unable to have our gas and eat our corn muffins too. There are also other crops which can be utilized to derive the Ethanol fuel, equivalent to soybeans, sugar beet, raw sugarcane, etc.. The truth still remains…the choice shall be gas for our automobiles and along with it will eventually come a vast depletion of a number of of our key home and export crops. It doesn’t mean that this situation will eventually come to be, but with out other renewable energy fuels developed in tandem, such because the Hydrogen based mostly fuel cell to help the Ethanol gas approach, this might lend itself to some key food staple shortages. The final question may be…”Do we favor wheels beneath our feet, or meals in our stomachs.” Common sense tells us that at this point in time, we should proceed with nice caution. Granted, the very giant south American nation of Brazil has launched into their Ethanol program for about a decade now, with pretty good results and have loved the weaning from overseas oil. Will it ever be one hundred pc remains to be seen.
Solar energy is one potential approach being tinkered with to supply Hydrogen in order to power our future power plants and it is hoped that electricity, which now helps to deplete our fossil fuels will assist us to deliver the gasoline needed to provide power for advanced “Fuel Cells” being developed to energy the automobiles and trucks, etc. of the future. Unfortunately, producing Hydrogen by utilizing solar power electricity could be very inefficient. This being said, solar energy is fully renewable and therefore must be considered. Along with the Hydrogen gas from Solar strategy comes recent announcements of some breakthroughs holding nice promise using Solar to economically produce the hydrogen needed for gas cells for both the car and our industrial needs and not using up all of our food resources within the process.
