In the rush for renewable energy today some Governments have put a heavy emphasis on wind power and turbines are sprouting like weeds all over the countryside as a result of the money to be had in subsidies.

There are small turbines that can be mounted either on the roof or on a pole and these will give you a significant reduction in the electricity you take from the national grid; in some cases you will be able to sell back excess energy to the power company. If you are good at DIY, then there are plans available on the internet which enable you to build your own wind turbine, otherwise there are numerous companies who will provide an entire installation. These turbines will pay for themselves in varying timescales according to how much wind you get but they will pay for themselves. It may also be worth while looking into a small group of people joining together to purchase and install a slightly bigger more expensive turbine to provide renewable energy to more than one property.

In conclusion , it is my view that wind power is tailor made for small scale power generation but does not work on the grand scale and we should stop cluttering up our countryside with industrial sites of dubious efficacy.
