Treat Your Air Conditioning For Make It Lasting
Air conditioners are not cheap. A bit of preventive work can make them lasting . One of the biggest problems with most air conditioning units made nowadays is that they are tough, and well built. Signs That Air conditioner Is Not Working Properly is when the air cool not flow .
The first step is to make routine inspections of your unit to discover any potential problems. There are prevention steps.
First, you must check the Filter
Dirty filters block air flow and will not let your air conditioner work correctly . Filters are important to the proper and economical operation of the air conditioning unit. They should be inspected often and changed or cleaned monthly. This is even more important during the summer months when there is a higher level of dust and pollutants in the air, and, of course, the units are running more frequently. Other methods of insuring maximum air flow through the system including cleaning and vacuuming of the registers and air vents. You should also insure that furniture and drapes are not blocking registers. Before every cooling season and once a month during the cooling season, the filter should be removed, cleaned and replaced. If you live in a particularly arid climate, this may need to be done more continuously . Most air conditioners have a washable filter that looks like a sponge.
Clean filters with a mild detergent and water, rinsing well. Let the filter dry completely before replacing. If your air conditioner comes with a fiberglass furnace style filter, do not wash it; replace it with a new filter of the same type.
Second, check the compresor
The outside compressor should be clear with a hose. Plantings should be save at least a foot away, and grass and weeds should be trimmed to insure adequate air flow around the unit. Replace any debris from the fan area. During the winter months, the compressor should be covered. It is also a good idea to remove any air conditioners during the winter, and store them until they are again needed.
Third, Check the Fan
If your fan is not working or if it is particularly noisy , it is usually caused by loose or dirty fan blades. Follow these steps to repair the fan:
1) Locate the fan inside the cabinet.
2) Use a soft cloth and/or vacuum to clean out any debris.
3) Check tightness of all blades. Vibration can loosen fan fasteners. 4) If your fan has oil ports, apply a few drops of 20-weight non-detergent motor oil.
5) If you misdoubt a faulty motor, test with the VOM on the RX1 scale. Connect VOM probes to disconnected terminal wires.
