It’s Easy to Go Green

Going green has become a buzzword now. It’s good to see that we have finally realized the importance of environment and are willing to conserve it. But how are we to conserve our precious environment? While a lot of us may know the ways to go eco-friendly, many of us still remain confused about proceeding in the right direction. As a matter of fact, going green is pretty simple. It’s all about doing our everyday work in a way that is eco-friendly. Following are some tips to go green.

We all use a lot of electronic gadgets like remote controls, mobile phones etc. and discard them after some time even if they are functioning well. This accumulates into toxic electronic wastes that further pollute the environment. We should try to use electronic gadgets as long as they function properly. Recycling of electronic products is a great way to avoid e-wastes. So, if you have an old cell phone, give it out to somebody or change its look with a new cover and start reusing it. However, it is very much understandable that all electronic goods cannot be used for long. Hence, it should be disposed off with consultation from experts who can give you a clear idea of destroying these products in an environmental friendly way.

Save energy and save environment. Use CFLs to light up your surroundings. While covering short distances, it is better to walk or cycle to reach your destination. This saves on the petrol/ diesel consumption, cuts down costs and saves the environment from harmful gaseous emission.

Consider buying secondhand products. Electronic appliances and furniture in good condition can easily serve your purpose. If you are bothered about the look and feel of the furniture, renovate it. Design it the way you want and get it polished.

We rely a lot on printed materials. The use of petroleum based inks and laminates leads to the emission of high volumes of VOCs that, in turn, affects the atmosphere. This further increases the risk of respiratory diseases. Hence, to save the environment, consider getting your print jobs done from a green printing house. Green printers use paper that is sourced from FSC certified companies. Also, the entire printing process is planned to produce optimum results with minimal energy consumption.
After all, it’s this easy to go green.

Making Green Fun for Your Kids

Childhood is a great time to learn about being environmentally friendly. It’s hard in many ways, as your kids see their friends live without thinking about how their actions matter, the toys they play with, the things they have.

The first step is to keep things age appropriate. You can teach children very young about some things. My 2-1/2 year old, for example, already knows the difference between the trash and recycle bins. He asks where to put everything.

My 5 year old is getting into reusing things. An amazing range of things are great for art projects. Old magazines, cardboard boxes, egg cartons and many other items have been saved for later projects. It saves a lot of shopping for ways to help my daughter be creative.

As they reach school age you can teach them by not sending lunches in disposable baggies or containers. At my daughter’s preschool, she was pretty much the only kid to bring her drink in a cup from home and snack in reusable containers. While these are still plastic, we’ll be using them for years rather than just once.

Some parts of green living are pretty easy on the kids. Throwing things in the recycle bin rather than the trash is pretty easy. Getting kids to reuse things, especially as they get older and more self conscious can be harder. The social pressures really add to the challenge.

The Shopping Challenge

Sometimes you can point out the advantages that may not be so obvious at first. If you have a good resale or thrift shop in your area, sometimes you can get fairly trendy clothes for much less than you would have paid for new. There’s nothing wrong with indulging your child’s desire to look good if you can show them the best ways to do so.

Handmedowns can also be an issue, but if you handle it well the clothes are more likely to be acceptable to the recipient. Go through and agree on which ones are actually wanted. The excess can be donated.

Reduce is perhaps one of the most difficult sections to handle. This is especially true when birthdays and holidays come around and you have little control over what other people give to them. We regularly go through our children’s things and talk about what is ready to be sold or donated. I also very rarely buy more toys for my kids. Quite frankly, between birthdays and Christmas they end up with more than they can play with anyhow.

But as they get older the issue often drifts toward the latest fashions and/or gadgets. I’ve already discussed how we cope with fashion, although since my oldest is 5 I have yet to deal with a truly fashion conscious child. She only thinks she has a fashion sense. Mostly involving dresses.

Gadgets such as cell phones, MP3 players and so forth are another matter. I dislike this trend of getting children a cell phone so very young, but at the same time I really do understand and sympathize. It can be pure torture wondering what is happening at your child’ school some days. I watched some mothers in my area go through that recently when their children’s high school had a shooting threat.

As I see it, it’s one thing to get a cell phone or other gadget, another to keep updating it with the latest technology. I decided that I didn’t need a cell phone that takes pictures, for example. Mine is only about 2-1/2 years old, but I can’t count how many people I know who have replaced their cell phones only because they wanted the latest addition to it. Don’t give in on this and explain why.

Teaching your kids to live green will not always be easy. They will resist at least some of the time. But through the years you can give them an appreciation for the world they live in and what they can do for it.

Purchase Green Lasers With No Risk at Any Output Power

Whenever you’re looking to purchase green lasers, or really any piece of technology for that matter, its extremely important to do a little bit of research into what you are getting and why. Take a look at a few tips that will not only get you any green laser you’re looking for, but how to do it safely and for pretty cheap as well.

Now, since lasers and laser pointers involve some complicated manufacturing that utilizes the combination of crystals and diodes to maximize any lasers potential and color frequency, its important to be sure that the brand or model you are considering is not some shoddy pointer that is going to burn out on you in a weeks time. If you are going to go for it and buy something, make sure you’re getting something that is worth your while, something that is built to last.

First of all, what do you need a green laser for in the first place? For use in a business, or to give a presentation, for military or safety use, etc. Its important to think about why you are in need of a laser and what you plan to do with it, even if you’re just a hobbyist who loves the advanced technology of the hand held gadgets. So after you’ve determined what you need the laser for, you can get a good idea of how powerful your green laser should be.

If you are using the beam for short distances, well then you’d probably only need something that isn’t too powerful, but if you need the beam to be visible for miles well then you’d want to go with a higher output power.

Second of all, give your brand or model a little ‘online inspection’, by simply looking at testimonials or stats/specs of the laser itself. See what other people who have the laser are saying about it on the web, and compare prices to find the best deal online for your needs. Remember about the quality of your laser diodes and why its so important. You may have found a powerful green laser at 100mW you want to buy that just doesn’t seem right and the price is too low. Lasers are like cars or any other item of varying quality, you can find some real cheap one’s but that doesn’t mean that its worth your time or money if its just going to burn or blow out on you and stop working in a day or so. What you see is what you get with lasers, the cheaper and poorer quality the manufacturing, the faster the laser is guaranteed to stop working.

Also, what type of warranties are offered on the laser? A reputable laser provider will have manufacturer’s warranties as well as add on’s you can choose from to protect your investment, because that’s what it is, and investment into a gadget, your business, or even hobby. Don’t be fooled by the allure of a cheap laser when its just going to die on you, if you’re serious about purchasing green lasers, checking the quality or name brand can save you a lot of hassle down the road.

Lastly, since you have thought about what you need a laser for and looked into different brand names and models of green lasers, you are ready to make an educated decision about which type and style of green laser to purchase. Because these are advanced pieces of technology, don’t go too cheap as you’ll find you end up with a poorly designed and built laser that may not even last a week, but also compare prices online to find the best value for your dollar and needs.

Certain laser providers carry brands that others don’t, while some carry everything within the realms of quality and assurance. Look for laser warranties and actual customer service, this can be huge if you ever run into a problem or just have a question about any laser you’re considering. The point is, don’t be shy in asking questions and make sure that you purchase green lasers from some place reputable, who will ship quickly and provide you with a powerful laser tool that is built to last.

James has written and spoken extensively over the past 2 decades about the importance of lasers in our society and how they will continue to effect our cultures and technology in the future. His preferred place to purchase green lasers is USA based ThinkLasers.com, the web’s #1 provider of such a wide selection of laser models actually worth your time.

Green Living in the Workplace – Your Commitment to Saving the Environment

Some people think that green living is a responsibility done inside the home. But, for those of you who are employed in several businesses, you should be able to think of ways to carry your own share of the load. Your workplace is a niche for some of the worst environmental hazards. You consume power and paper and you make use of different technological gadgets that do provide you much comfort in the workplace but has some green issues too.

The daily tasks conducted within your office vicinities may render some harm to the environment. For the meantime, you are excused if you are not aware of that. However, if you are just lazy about acting in eco friendly ways, you should wake up and start doing your work in the proper order. Do not pressure yourself though. You may do things one day at a time.

Start going green through lifestyle changes inside the office

When you start to change your lifestyle to conform to green living in the office, well you are doing a good job. This means you are ready to take on more responsibilities on saving the environment. Here are a few things you may actually do inside your offices to begin your endeavor on saving the environment.

. Green options in your workstations. You should be conscious enough to turn off your computer monitors once you live your workplace for lunch or coffee breaks. This is often neglected by many. Remind your officemates to do the same. If you have to leave for home after a day’s work, make sure you have unplugged electronics and other equipment in your workstation.

. Green living in your comfort room. Many establishments have multiple toilet cubicles for the use of employees and patrons. These places utilize a large amount of water especially when flushing. You may suggest a green alternative to the flushing system in your toilets. There are many water saving devices that control the flow of water when flushing. Use a brick or a bottle to save water or call a water company to help you with this.

. Use a collection system. A collection system in the office pertains to organizing the gathering of papers and other materials in your office. All recyclable items should be collected and disposed of properly to the recycle bin at the end of each week.

More green living options for the office

Once you have started with the above-mentioned techniques, your efforts to live a green lifestyle are now working. You are starting to make a difference in this world. You may push forward through other notable acts.

. Keep your office clean. This is obviously one way to protect you from health hazards. The endeavor is considered one of the best things in your eco friendly solutions too. Always keep your windows clean. This will allow you to bring-in more light from the outside. You no longer need to turn the lights on most of the day.

. What to do with radiators. Sometimes, you fill your radiators with several unnecessary items. These things will interfere with the real purpose of the gadget thus making it less energy efficient. Green living dictates that you should avoid making your radiators a decorative table.

. Invest on eco friendly and energy efficient means. There are a number of ways where you may source out your energy’s power. If you are not yet ready to have your own solar panels built, you may sign up with wind or hydro power utility companies. This is your license to reduce fossil fuel usage.

These simple things lead to more fruitful benefits. Green living in the office will surely mark a lot of benefits for you as employees and for your consumers as well. On top of all things, the rest of the world will benefit from you. Be a responsible worker by looking through green options for your workplace.

The Best Costumes For the Gadget Lover

Gadget lovers are usually just seen as being technical. You might not think they are creatively or artistically-inclined enough to fully immerse themselves in the fun of dressing up for Halloween. There are, however, quite a few very interesting costumes for people who love gadgets. One such costume is a giant remote control. It is so funny to see a giant remote control walk in the room! A costume like this could be easily made out of cardboard and some black and silver paint.

Another costume that would be great for the gadget-obsessed would be an iPhone. With iPhones being so hot right now, your costume would be a hit! An iPhone costume could also easily be made out of cardboard and paint. If you’d rather not wear a box all night, you could wear a black sweatshirt with those well-known iPhone icons painted on it.

A funny costume that your gadget-loving self could dress up in is the oh-so-dreaded ‘Blue Screen of Death’! This one could be made with a cardboard box, too, or you could just wear a blue sweatshirt – either of which you will want to paint on the words, “Exception Fatal Error”. The computer geeks at the party might not want to sit next to you, for fear of your jinxing them, but, it will be a really funny costume!

A neat costume to put together would be an Xbox costume. Everyone recognizes that big, green X! You would just need to dress in all black, making sure to have long pants and long sleeves. Also wear a black hat and then you have a small black box around your torso with that lovely green X on it! The gamers in the room will recognize you right away!

If you’d rather take page from the 80′s, you could dress up as a Rubik’s Cube. For this costume, you will need a large cardboard box cut into three slices. You also cut a hole for your head in the top, hopefully the size of one colored square. And cut a hole in the bottom for your waist. Paint on all of the squares, connect the three sections of the box with some string, and you are now one of the most favorite toys of the 80′s!

The list could really go on and on, as there are many different things that you could dress up as, while still holding strong to your geek card! Technological people might not, at first, be thought of as creative, but, I think this short list of costumes tells us otherwise.

Girls love gadgets, too! At GadgetChick we adore gadgets – and guess what? They don’t have to be pink or shiny! We feature loads of gadgets, including tons of fun gadgets. Join us at http://gadgetchick.com and share our love of gadgets!

“Green” Can Grow On You – Simple Ways To “Go Green” Without Making Everyone Around You Go Crazy

Yes – you may say – it is about time that everyone got on the same page and started thinking about our earth – the precious gift that we have been given. Yes – you may say it is about time that big business, especially the media, and politicians, especially Republicans are thinking about the earth without once having “pillaging and profiting” coming into their minds.

Yes – you may say – it is about time. But you also should say… Time for what? How much can we really “Go Green” without sounding like environmental snobs? How can we “Go Green” in a way that is easy to maintain – so we won’t look like flaming hypocrites when we can’t sustain that “Go Green Fever” we started?

Well there are a few simple things – and really – they are simple and sustainable and really will do some good:

  • Walk, Don’t Run – or Especially Drive: I think of how many times I could have walked down the street to the pharmacy, Trader’ Joes – or even my favorite Farmer’s Market spot and how many less carbons I would have contributed to emitting – just simply because I didn’t put the “pedal to the medal” but put my “foot to the pavement” – and just simply walked.
  • Sip from your Own Cistern: Making your own drinking water – using one of those very cool low cost filtering system not only saves money, but saves the earth from one more plastic never degradable piece of waste.
  • Can You Hear Me Now? – Don’t Listen! And Close your Eyes when you See those Cool Cell Phone Commercials: Though your cell phone is not the Coolest on the planet – it will help the planet stay cooler by not adding more toxic waste to its already overburdened eco-system. Just FYI – did you know that each time you toss your old cell phone or other electronic gadget to get the latest model, your old cell phone, as well as heaps of others are being shipped overseas illegally to be disassembled by workers with very little protective wear – that may not seem so bad – but those electronic gadgets may be cute on the outside – but they carry around a lot of toxic and noxious chemicals like mercury on the inside.
  • Go Whole Foods for a Day: Just by having a nice fruit and salad day – it helps keep you thin and also helps the environment. FYI – did you know that meat production plants have huge energy needs and also the waste they produce is toxic?

I could go on – but these are just a few things you can do – all the time – and be green – but more importantly STAY GREEN!!

For more tips on how to “Go Green” check out our local library. And by the way that brings us to yet another way to Go Green! Borrowing books instead of purchasing them saves the trees and consumes less fossil fuel to deliver them to you.

See – You Can Do it! So the next time you see one of those corny but true commercials about the environment – know that you can change things – a little at a time and also provide a good role model for your neighbors. You know how that goes – Keeping up with the Jones’ – you could start an Enviromendemic (Don’t bother looking it up – I know it isn’t a word – but bear with me here I am on a roll!) Pretty soon your whole neighborhood will be going green. Ok, I am calming down now, no need for restraints. But I think I have made my point – we can all be environmentally conscience without making ourselves or more importantly those around us – go Nuts.
