Renewable Energies – The Greatest Sources of Power in the World
The energy that are generated from natural resources like, wind, sunlight, tides, geothermal heat, rain and which can be renewed are known as renewable energies.
1) Wind energy – winds or airflows are used for running wind turbines and creating power. Today, the wind energy’s potential is supposed to be 40 times the demand of current electricity. Wind energy is renewable and they do not produce any greenhouse gases like methane and carbondioxide during operation.
2) Solar energy – energy collected from sunlight is known as solar energy. They can be used for generating electricity through solar cells, concentrated solar powers, etc. They can be also used for generating hydrogen through photochemical cells, etc.
3) Water power – energy present in the water can be harnessed and used to produce power. As water is denser than air by 800 times, even a stream of water flowing slowly can produce energy of a considerable amount.
4) Biofuel – plants produce biomass through photosynthesis and when this is used directly as a fuel, it is known as biofuel. Biofuels like biodiesel, bagasse and ethanol are burnt in boilers or other internal combustion engines for releasing their stored chemical energy.
5) Liquid biofuel – bioalcohols like ethanol fuels or bio-oils like straight vegetable oil and bio-diesel are called liquid biofuels. Biodiesel is used for running modern diesel vehicles and straight vegetable oils can be used to run modified diesel engines.
6) Solid biomass – solid biomass is generally used as combustive fuels directly and they produce heat from 10-20 MJ/kg. Solid biomass includes cow manure, wood fuels and byproducts of some plants. Solid biomass are used by millions of people for cooking and heating their homes.
7) Biogas – biogas is produced from the current wastes like sewage, sugar productions, paper productions, animal wastes, etc. These waste streams are slurried together and made to frequent for producing methane gas. Biogas can also be produced through mechanical biological treatments.
8) Geothermal Energy- It is also a renewable for of energy and is produced by tapping the earth’s heat from deep inside the earth’s crust. For generating power through geothermal energy, power plants of three types are used, binary, flash, dry and steam.
The most common renewable energies, which are being used by regular people are wind and solar power. Basically, if you just make a windmill or build solar panels, you can start enjoying cost-free electricity, generating your own power. To get more info about how to start, please click here.
